We are pleased to announce that Paula J. Lambert's The Sudden Seduction of Gravity will be reissued in standard format. The original, gorgeous, hand-stitched, special edition sold out this past fall (and Juan Armando's De caña de maíz y miel: 12 haikus de Ohio / On Cornstalks and Honey: 12 Ohio Haiku has very nearly sold out). Because we've received so many requests for more, we'll be releasing a new issue of the book with the same title and poems, using standard cover stock and saddle-stitched (stapled) binding, in April of this year. We'll issue a call for pre-orders soon!

sunday workshops, co-sponsored by the Ohio Poetry Association

Picture
Free and open to the public. Please register below for up to two workshops.
  • “It’s Element-ary Watson: Writing about Earth, Water, Fire, & Air,” with Terry Hermsen
So much good poetry grows out of our sensory engagement with the earth, including our on-going experience of these form elements that have for ages shaped earthly processes themselves, as well as our human sensibilities. In this workshop, participants will read some poems that reflect those experiences then dive into writing about our own, exploring our own memories and evoking what matters most.
  • "Hai'ku Workshop," with Dave Noble
This workshop will focus on the heart of what it means to craft haiku, emphasizing brevity, word choice, and structure. Fun, fast-paced writing drills will be used to create the raw material which will then be shaped by easy, exciting exercises. The tools used in this workshop can also be applied to long-form poetry, allowing participants not only to write more powerful and succinct haiku but also to be more effective in all their writing.
  • “The Lore and Healing Power of Native Plants,” with Susann Moeller
This workshop will guide participants through writing exercises that explore the lore and healing power of plants. Participants will view a brief web presentation by Ian McCallum to get their creative juices flowing, then learn about the application of poetry as a magnifying glass, a voice for the environment, and a tool that can provide us with a sense of being and mystery.
  • “A Resonance of Birds,” with Paula J. Lambert
Taking a meditative approach to the writing process, this workshop uses bird song and bird facts as a guide to developing new poems. Our emphasis will be on listening, allowing the calls of both living and extinct bird species to guide us to our own, inner voice and the words we put down on the page.
Workshop registration is not required but it is recommended to ensure that your spot is reserved. To register, click the button below.
